How to Find the Next Infosys

My eyes were stuck at a newspaper headline that read – “15 companies that can be the next Infosys”.

And then there was something I read online that said, “Find the next Infosys”.

Another suggested, “How to build a fortune with blue-chip stocks that don’t even exist yet!”

Bam! How do I invest now in stocks that don’t even exist yet?

You see, business media is replete with such claims that they know of the ways investors can find the next Infosys, or HDFC Bank, or L&T (or future blue chip stocks that don’t even exist now!).

But ask them whether they were able to identify the first Infosys (i.e., the real Infosys) when it came out with its IPO in 1993 or even after that, and you’ll stare at dumb looks.

Stock markets have received heavy pounding over the past few weeks as escalating fears over the global economic outlook is pushing investors into safer assets like gold.

The stampede out of equities has spared few sectors or individual stocks and has wiped out hundreds of billions of dollars of market value across the world, including India.

How to Become a Successful Investor? Grandma Knows Best

The way we conduct ourselves in real life has a lot to do with what we’ve learnt from our parents, and especially from our grandparents.

In fact, the best memories I have of my childhood are of the nights spent with my grandmother who told me stories of the kings and witches, of what made people good and what made them bad, of the importance of forming good habits and the harmful effects of walking the wrong path.

You must have had the same experience.

How to Keep Your Head in a World Gone Mad

“The whole world is mad. Stocks will be dropping 30 percent, then rallying 20 percent, and dropping another 30 percent – that’s going to be the pattern. And whoever can’t live with that shouldn’t be buying equities at all.”

These are the words of noted investment guru Marc Faber, the author of The Gloom Boom & Doom Report.

Seeing the way stock markets are reacting these days, it does seem that the world has indeed gone mad.

But as Faber says, if you can’t live with the current uncertainty and volatility in the stock markets, you must not be buying stocks at all.
